The Recorded History of Casino Craps

The background of Craps dates all the way back to a dice game known as Hazard, which goes back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in Early 1800's. Hazard is thought to be a by-product of Azzahr, which means 'the die' a game played by Arabs.

The game developed as it spread out from the Arab countries to Europe and then to the UK. By the early 1700s, formal rules for Hazard had been developed. France started playing the English variation of Hazard and is believed to have been brought to the new world by early French colonists. In the mid-1700s, when the British beat the French in British North America, the French colonists relocated to Louisiana. Dice were played on river boats, casinos and wharfs and a streamlined 'American' style of Craps was developed. The game headed west and is a favoured game that is participated in all over the United States and all over the world.

The name 'Craps' is believed to be a French pronunciation of the word crabs, which refers to two ones. There are 2 basic varieties of Craps that are gambled on-street Craps and bank Craps. Street caps, correctly called seeing as it is played on the streets is where a hurler establishes a point and then attempts to make that point. The betting is made either for or against the shooter and somebody has to cover the bet in order for the game to go on.

In bank Craps, which is the popular game, competed in in betting houses, the casino funds the game. The gamblers gamble with the casino-the casino covers all of the bets of all of the players. Craps used to be a very popular game but in the past 20 years had divided itself and other games, such as poker and black jack became more popular. However, Craps is experiencing a come back in popularity once again in online betting houses and in real betting houses.
